Band 18

"Geistigkeit, Leben und geschichtliche Welt in der Transzendentalphänomenologie Husserls" stellt eine systematische Auseinandersetzung mit Husserls Theorie der Geschichte sowie des sozialen Lebens dar. Dabei wird Husserls Ansatz vor dem Hintergrund der Debatte um das Verhältnis von Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften entwickelt, wie sie insbesondere zwischen Neukantianismus (Rickert) und Lebensphilosophie (Dilthey, Simmel) geführt wurde. In diesem Zusammenhang finden die entsprechenden Manuskripte und Vorlesungen Husserls erstmals ausführliche Berücksichtigung.
Die Arbeit verpflichtet sich weder inhaltlich noch terminologisch einer der posthusserlschen Phänomenologien, sondern bemüht sich um eine immanente Darstellung der Husserlschen Konzeption. Darüber hinaus unternimmt sie den Versuch, Husserls Sozial- und Geschichtstheorie mit anderen zentralen Bereichen der transzendentalen Phänomenologie, insbesondere der Eidetik und Handlungstheorie, zu verbinden.

"Geistigkeit, Leben und geschichtliche Welt in der Transzendentalphänomenologie Husserls" is the first work on Husserl's theory of history and the social world that: (1.) Draws extensively on his manuscripts and lecture courses; (2.) Situates Husserl's view of history and the historical world in the wider philosophical context of his time with particular consideration of the debate between Neokantianism (Rickert) and Philosophy of Life (Dilthey, Simmel) on the status of natural and human sciences. (3.) Does not project onto Husserl's work the language and the preoccupations of post-husserlian continental philosophy but tries to give a full account of Husserl's project "from within". (4.) Attempts to link Husserl's theory of history to other important areas of his phenomenological research such as eidetics and theory of action.
